How to Design a Silicone Valve for Thick Food Products

Why Standard Silicone Valves Don’t Fit Every Food Product

How Fruit Size Affects Silicone Valve Design

One detail many brands overlook is fruit size. In fresh fruit jam, pieces can be several millimeters wide. A normal valve opening size will block them.

We had a customer making strawberry jam. Their valve hole size was too small. Users had to squeeze hard, and fruit still got stuck.

We adjusted the silicone valve design to allow larger pieces to pass. At the same time, we kept the self sealing silicone valve function so it would not leak.

This balance is not easy. Open too much, and the valve leaks. Make it too tight, and users struggle to dispense.

A Real Project: Developing a Silicone Valve for Fresh Fruit Jam

A customer came to us with a clear problem. Their jam dispensing cap leaked, and fruit pieces blocked the valve.

They needed a food contact silicone solution that could handle chunks and stay sealed.

We started by reviewing their squeeze jam bottle design. Then we built several silicone valve prototype samples with different slit geometries.

We tested each sample with real jam. Some opened too easily and leaked. Others were too tight and blocked.

After several rounds, we found the right balance. The final LSR molding design gave smooth dispensing, no blockage, and no leakage.
